How to build a home audio system

What You’ll Read

Refined floors, fine furniture and ideal setting: the purchase or renovation of a property offers its owners the opportunity to express themselves. One’s creativity, one’s taste, one’s history and very often one’s identity. Because when you participate in the design of your home, putting your heart into it is an integral part of the journey. And once the environment has been filled with the right physical, light and artistic elements, music also plays an important role.

Because a welcoming home is made up of physical objects, but it also has emotions, and it is precisely these that make it unique, and that make it yours.

So how can you fill your home with music and the emotions it brings?

To be successful in this enterprise careful and expert planning are required; a deep study of the environment, in order to obtain a high-level result.

What is there to consider first?

One system for each room:

in the kitchen, as well as in the living room and bedroom, but also in the bathroom. A complete audio system embraces the entire home, integrating with the furnishings or completely disappearing from view with built-in wall speakers. And although concealed systems are the ideal solution for those who want to maintain a minimalist environment throughout the house, the possibility of enriching their furnishings with design elements is undoubtedly worth considering: audio speakers that stand out not only for their excellent audio quality, but also for the wide possibility of personalization with the choice of fabrics, materials, colors, lacquers and shapes. Speakers that are also artistically recognized sculptures.

The living room

the room dedicated to multimedia entertainment par excellence, is the room where the most shrewd planning takes place. An audio system that will be used not only for music but also for the Home Theater. A surround system that must be able to immerse in the scenes of movies and television series as in those of video games, for those who love this sector.

In the living room there are usually two tower speakers placed in front of the sofa, which will create the basic stereo system. To these we then add a central speaker, in the probable case in which we will also listen to films as well as music. The central speaker is of fundamental importance as it will take care of reproducing the voices of the actors, so the sound will reach the ears of the viewer in the most direct and natural way possible.

Let’s see how we are already outlining the first 3 channels, to which we will add a subwoofer, usually hiding it under a piece of furniture or in a corner. The system will therefore be a 3.1

But for truly immersive audio it will be good to go beyond this too, implementing with the addition of two other smaller rear speakers, which will form the basis of the surround system, which now has 5.1 channels. Then there are the ceiling speakers, those on the wall, the Atmos speakers to always be applied to the wall or above the towers at the front and also at the rear. The number of channels grows with the complexity of the system and it can even exceed 16 channels in a living room. Of course, all of this has a certain operating complexity, which however shouldn’t scare the user at all, since during installation the technicians will take care of the calibration of the entire system, and using it will be as simple as turning on the TV or the radio, since the components (which can also be hidden) of final amplifiers and receiver amplifiers will manage everything, even in several rooms.

Because as mentioned in the introduction, the audio system concerns the entire house and can be easily controlled by a single remote control or even from your smartphone. And this is where we start talking about a multi-room sound system.

Thanks to the powerful home automation, the music will follow you to every room, and it will be possible to immerse the whole house in sound, as well as listen to different music in different rooms, indoors and out.

But how many cables! What if I have already furnished my home?

A wired system undoubtedly requires careful planning upstream, with the provision of cables, speakers and the space necessary for system management.

But technology is advancing, and it is becoming more and more convenient for those who install it: there are now wireless speakers, whose final quality has nothing to fear even when compared to that of traditional passive speakers.

The wireless speakers are active, therefore they already contain an amplifier inside them, and the only connection they need to work is the electrical one, since the signal reaches them through electromagnetic waves spread throughout the house. Also in this case the system will have to be configured carefully, and once set up its use will be as simple as that of traditional wired systems.

The installation of a wireless system is minimally invasive: the installer will only have to place the speakers in the pre-established areas, without any electrical or masonry intervention, just connect a power plug.

And of course then there is the longer calibration and programming phase, which typically lasts a few hours but will be done from a computer without any disturbance to your home.

Does multiroom only affect audio?

A home automation remote control doesn’t just concern the audio and video system, but also everything else: it’s a remote control for your home.

Electric blinds, air conditioning, lights and even dispensing food for your pet – a smart remote control can do it all.
